Key takeaways

- A rechargeable processor battery slowly loses capacity with every charge cycle, so runtime gets shorter over time.

- If a fully charged battery no longer gets you through the day, it is usually time for a replacement.

- Always match the battery to your exact processor model (for example N7, N6, Naída CI Q90 or Marvel).

- Keeping one charged spare battery means you never lose hearing because of an empty battery.

How Long Do Cochlear Implant Batteries Last?

There are two different answers: how long one charge lasts, and how long the battery itself lasts before it needs replacing.

Runtime per charge

Runtime depends on the battery size, your processor model, your implant and program settings, and how much you stream audio. Larger batteries (higher mAh) generally run longer than compact ones, and streaming over Bluetooth uses more power than everyday listening. That is why two people with the same processor can get very different hours from the same battery.

Lifespan of a rechargeable battery

Like phone batteries, rechargeable processor batteries are lithium-based and gradually lose capacity as they go through charge cycles. When you charge every night, a battery that used to last a full day will slowly start running out earlier. Most daily users notice this drop and plan to replace their batteries periodically, especially if they depend on one or two batteries only.

Signs Your Rechargeable Battery Needs Replacing

Replace your battery if you notice any of the following:

-

- A fully charged battery no longer lasts your usual day.

- The battery drains much faster when streaming or in noisy places than it used to.

- The processor switches off unexpectedly or shows low battery warnings soon after charging.

- The battery takes much longer to charge, or does not show a full charge.

- The battery is swollen, cracked, or does not click securely onto the processor.

Safety note: stop using any battery that is swollen, damaged or becomes hot, and contact your audiologist or implant center if your processor shows warning lights you cannot explain.

Cochlear Nucleus Batteries (N5, N6, N7, N8)

Each Nucleus processor uses its own battery design, so a battery for one generation will not fit another. Choose the battery that matches your processor:
